I want to start by saying this is the third chapter I've tried and this book has yet to disappoint. Well done menus and while I usually go minimum on the decor, it's very nice to know I could go all out if I had the time and energy.

Review

Cinderella "Stroke of Midnight" New Year's Eve Party

Royal Roast Beef Crostini

4.5/5

Refreshing bite. The pepper jelly is not spicy, hot, nor in a texture that I find upsetting. The cheese and a just right size amount of roast beef makes this a really delicious treat. A 10 oz can of pepper jelly generously fit a whole baguette that I baked into crostini pieces

Jaq and Gus's Cheese Nibbles

3.5/5

The cheese crisps were a bit tricky to find in my usual grocery store, but really worthwhile with this crisp and fruity bite. A little bit goes a long way.

Sparkling Gelatin Squares

3/5

The recipe says to let the mixture cool before adding the sparkling grape juice and the club soda before setting. I waited too long and the gelatin set at room temperature! To avoid cutting the gelatin, I set it in silicone molds. It was fairly easy to place in the coupe glasses but it was a bit wet as my mistake with combining sodas to the gelatin mix didn't completely harden. The taste was subtlety sweet grape.

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Blue Velvet Cupcakes

4/5

Quite the process to make but really delicious. Cream cheese frosting, blue fondant (store bought), and a rich cake mixture. I think they look and taste great. My only note is that a star cookie cutter would have made the fondant look more uniform but if you don't have it, cutting it out by hand can do the trick. Tip: invest in air tight containers for the cupcakes and frosting. You might also need a piping bag and tips for fancy frosting applications.

Midnight Magic Punch

3/5 without rock candy stick, 4/5 with rock candy stick

The drink is good on its own but the candy stick makes it look more festive and taste sweeter. Recipe can fit in a 1 gallon drink vessel.

Decor

I printed the "At Midnight I turn into a..." sheet from the website provided by the book. It was a cute addition to the scene.

Overall

4/5

It's an excellent party menu and I would make several items again, even the whole menu for another event.
